GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya stated Monday that delaying the vote on Goldstone’s report in the UN human rights council at the request of the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah dealt a blow to the national reconciliation efforts.

During a special session held by the Palestinian legislative council in Gaza to discuss the implications of adjourning the report, Haneyya highlighted that what happened is a systematic policy that must be stopped if the Palestinian rivals wanted to strengthen their national unity and steadfastness in the face of the Israeli occupation.

“If this leadership was not removed from the scene of action, we will remain in the midst of inter-Palestinian strife,” the premier added.

He revealed in his speech facts related to the scandal that occurred at the UN human rights council which confirm Abbas’s direct involvement in obstructing the report.

“We contacted some of the circles who are close to the UN and the human rights council, and everyone we phoned confirmed that everything was going well and there was momentum from several human rights organizations and a belief that this report would gain a two-thirds majority vote,” the premier revealed.

He added that at the last moment, the PA in Ramallah contacted its envoy and ordered him to ask the representative of the organization of the Islamic conference to submit a request to postpone the vote.

The premier stressed that what happened is part of a systematic policy pursued since the Israeli war on Gaza when the PA made remarks justifying the war and providing the Israeli occupation with a cover-up for its crimes.

For his part, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, a member of Hamas political bureau, called during the session for nominally withdrawing the Palestinian nationality from Mahmoud Abbas and all his aides who were involved in postponing the vote on Goldstone’s report.

Dr. Zahhar said that his request for withdrawing the citizenship from Abbas is not an official demand because of the absence of an official authority that can do so.

In a related context, Hamas official Ayman Taha deplored the Palestinian left-wing factions for withdrawing from the participation in the national conference on the PA decision to delay the vote on Goldstone’s report as an unjustified and irresponsible act.

For its part, the coalition of Palestinian forces in Lebanon strongly denounced the PA in Ramallah for postponing the vote on Goldstone’s report, saying that this shameful position gave Israel a cover-up for its crimes against the Palestinian people and encouraged it to persist in its aggression.

A leading figure in Fatah revealed to Safa news agency on Monday that five PA leaders were responsible for the decision of deferring the vote on Goldstone’s report.

The Fatah official said on condition of anonymity that those leaders were Mahmoud Abbas, Salam Fayyad, Saeb Erekat, Yasser Abedrabbo and Akram Haneyya.
