"Not so fast..."

Conventional wisdom sees Saad Hariri visiting Damascus within hours or days, to be shortly followed by Walid Jumblatt's pilgrimage to Syria, in what many see as fence mending historic gestures.

The reality however is slightly more complicated than that, at least that's how the Syrians see it!

Things have been said and harmful motions have been activated, ... and prior to any 'face-a-face', more things will have to be said, publicly & clearly, to pave the way to Damascus. Jumblatt has done some of the heavy lifting for himself, but others have kept silent so far. Hardly the prerequisites of a successful and upcoming visit.

Finally, the expected final product of this public outpour of 'resignation & repentance', resembling the hearings of SA's Truth & Reconciliation Commission, will have to include (perhaps at a later stage) some of Syria's prominent friends in Lebanon ...
