GAZA, (PIC)-- The Wa'ed society for prisoners has denounced the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon for meeting the family of captured Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit while ignoring families of Palestinian prisoners, describing his position as "shameful".

The society in a statement on Monday said that the UN top official, who visited the Gaza Strip for a few hours, did not care to listen to the suffering of the relatives of prisoners and martyrs who lined up to meet him and to talk to him about their suffering.

It expressed surprise and dismay that Ki-moon then allowed himself to meet with Shalits' family and to speak about the basic human rights, which he did not remember when he saw children in Gaza holding photos of their detained fathers.

The Secretary General described Shalit's capture and detention by Palestinian resistance factions as "unacceptable" but he remained silent regarding thousands of Palestinian prisoners, it elaborated.

The society urged all free and honorable people of the world who will listen to the speech of Shalit's father at the UN human rights council to remember the suffering of thousands of Palestinian prisoners, hundreds of them are kept in jail without charge or trial for years under the so called "admindtrative detention".
