Sheikh Qassem: Strong Resistance Is Necessity in Lebanon

19/05/2010 Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Wednesday that three major issues were necessary to safeguard Lebanon's stability: consolidating its strengths, preventing hegemony and imposing consensus.

Speaking during a political meeting held by Hezbollah lawyers' gathering at Al-Jinan hall in Beirut's southern suburb, Sheikh Qassem stressed that Lebanon should remain strong to prevent the Israeli enemy of messing around it whenever it wants. His eminence emphasized that Lebanon's strength was the condition of stability just like its weakness led to non-stability in the past. "We are not anymore at the stage in which they ask us to do what they want but at the stage in which we ask what we want."

Sheikh Qassem also stressed the need to prevent hegemony in Lebanon from the party of any regional or international foreign state, noting that Lebanese should build their alliances according to their interests and can't be subordinate to any other state. "When they came with the ill-omened resolution 1559, they sought to destroy the country and to impose an Israeli-American hegemony in it," his eminence pointed out, recalling of the resolution's repercussions in Lebanon during the five previous years.

According to Sheikh Qassem, consensus regulated by accurate political balances also helps to establish stability in the country. His eminence pointed in this context to the experience of the national-unity government which transferred the country from non-stability to stability at all levels.

Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General reiterated that all the achievements made during the previous years were accomplished thanks to the Resistance, the People and the Army. "The strong Resistance is a necessity," Sheikh Qassem stressed, noting that Lebanese should have searched for it if it wasn't present. "The Resistance's victories are for all Lebanon and its achievements are made for the interest of Lebanon and not anyone else in this world," his eminence said.

Addressing the municipal elections, Sheikh Qassem said the polls were believed to be an achievement for the government regardless of the electoral law, emphasizing at the same time that they will have no impact on the political map.
