16/09/2010 It seems that the leader of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea has predicted that former General Security chief Jamil Sayyed will be summoned for questioning.
According to the Lebanese daily, as-Safir newspaper, Geagea informed his party’s officials that Sayyed will be summoned for questioning over his recent statement.
Sayyed on Sunday had said that Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri's team is behind false witnesses in the suit of former PM Rafik al-Hariri's assassination. .
The daily reported that Geagea said “if Sayyed refuses to [cooperate with] the Lebanese judiciary, the latter will arrest him.”
As-Safir also added that “Geagea said his party will confront those who object to the judiciary’s decision,” adding "our party's history proves that we do what we say."
In this context the Lebanese daily, an-Nahar newspaper, reported on Thursday that Attorney General Judge Said Mirza summoned Sayyed “to question the latter over his threats against the Lebanese state, judiciary, and Prime Minister Saad Hariri.”
Sayyed placed in temporary detention in Lebanon, along with other three generals, in 2005 after false witnesses have allegedly said that Sayyed was involved in Hariri's assassination. The four generals were released in 2009 due to lack of evidence.
On March, Sayyed filed a request to the president of the STL, Antonio Cassese, to gain access to certain court files.
For its part, LF on Thursday denied that Geagea has said his party would confront with those who object the judiciary's decision.
This saying is “nothing but a story from its writers’ imagination and is totally untrue,” the LF said in a statement issued on Thursday.
“Peaceful behavior is the best answer to the fabrications of March 8 coalition forces,” the statement added.
“March 8 forces always drag the country toward violent language in the street when they fail to change any balance via democratic means,” the statement also said.
