The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun said on Wednesday from Syria it was time to return to “roots” and “get out” of “isolation.”

Aoun, who travelled to Syria on Tuesday in order to celebrate Saint Maroun Day celebrations, emphasized that Christianity and Islam share the same values

"Our goal is to return to our environment, to our roots," he said after taking part in a mass marking St. Maroun Day in Brad, Aleppo. "Our goal is not utilitarian, but to get out of isolation," he stressed.

He pointed to Islamphobia, accusing "some" of taking the word "phobia" and sticking it onto Islam, citing the church bombings in Baghdad and Alexandria. "We are here to tell the whole world that this region will remain a meeting place of diverse religions," Aoun pledged.

NEGOTIATIONS WITH MIQATI ONGOING
In an interview with the Syrian news channel, Aoun said that negotiations with Prime Minister-Designate Najib Miqati over the formation of the new government were ongoing.

He said that the last meeting between Miqati and Minister Gebran Bassil was held on Tuesday. “We’re still discussing with him the sensitive issues,” he pointed out.
