Hezbollah claims responsibility for bomb targeting Israeli tank in southern Lebanon
Updated at 5:35 pm (GMT+3):Lebanon's Hezbollah claims responsibility for detonating a bomb that targeted an Israeli tank near the Sadan Israeli military post in the Israeli-occupied Shebaa Farms Tuesday, news channel Al-Manar reported.
According to Al-Manar, at 2:22 pm (GMT +3) an explosion targeted an Israeli tank, lightly wounding two Israeli soldiers.
Thirty minutes later, a second explosion was heard near the southern Lebanese border. No injuries or damages were reported according to Israeli media outlets.
The incident comes two days after Israeli troops shot and wounded a Lebanese soldier.
"Two soldiers were injured by an explosive device. It was activated against them during activity near the Lebanon border," an Israeli military spokeswoman told AFP.
"Initial reports indicate it was intended to attack soldiers," she said of the explosion in the Shebaa Farms area, which also lies near the ceasefire line with Syria.
The Israeli army responded by launching artillery shells and phosphorous onto the Lebanese Kfar Shuba Heights in Hasbaya district, a correspondent for news channel Al-Jadeed said.
The Shebaa Farms area is located at the junction of Lebanon, Syria and Israel and has been occupied by Israel since the 1967 Middle East war.
A state of alert later prevailed in the region, with enemy reconnaissance planes and helicopters effectuating heavy flights in Shebaa and Kfar Shuba.
